Rep. Haruna Dederi laid two petitions calling for investigations from two complainants.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">2. Rep. Henry Nwawuba laid a petition from a former corporal of the Nigeria Police who was laid off for manslaughter but was cleared of any wrongdoing by the courts. He had been trying to get his reinstatement to no avail. He craved the intervention of the House to resolve the issue.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">3. Rep. Herman Hembe laid a petition on behalf of the University of Agriculture, Markurdi, Benue State on the need to restore a program that had been previously delisted in the management faculty. They craved the intervention of the House to get the course reinstated.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The petitions were referred to the House Committee on Public Petitions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">________________________________________________________________________________________<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">MOTION OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">1. Rep. Henry Nwawuba moved a motion on the urgent need to sensitize Nigerians on the danger of crystal meth and it was seconded by Rep. Shehu Kakale.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Nwawuba stressed the highly addictive nature of the drug on the youth and its capabilities of corrupting the mentality of its users. He stated that many Mexican drug lords have set up laboratories to produce the drug in Nigeria. He expressed concern about the violent nature of its users when under its influence. He called on the House to mandate the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to ensure that the production and distribution of the hard drug are contained.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Toby Okechukwu in contributing to the debate stressed the addictive and hallucinating influence of crystal meth on its users. He called for the unravelling of the producers and flow channels of the drug so it can be taken completely out of the Nigerian society market.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Lynda Ikpeazu stated that the effects of the drug are highly addictive, destructive and lethal, to the extent of making its users zombie-like. She called for the proper funding of NDLEA rehab centers to contain the menace.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Tajudeen Yusuf appealed for the expansion of the scope of investigations into all the innovations in drug manufacture, use and abuse. He stressed that the future of the Nigerian youth may be at risk and they may be unable to compete with their contemporaries globally if the dangerous trend and habits are not curtailed. He called on religious and traditional leaders, as well as policymakers to sensitize the Nigerian youth on the need and benefits of living a drug-free life.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Shehu Kakale stressed that the ease with which the drug is produced makes it very accessible and cheap. He stated that the effects of the drug contribute to the banditry and hooliganism the nation is grappling with. He called on the federal government to come up with a marshal plan to tackle the flow of the drug.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Jonathan Gbefwi stated that one of the major causes of depression and suicide is drug use and abuse. He called on the NDLEA and the Immigration Service to ensure the implementation of mechanisms for these drugs not to enter into the Nigerian society. Rep. Gbefwi called on the National Orientation Agency for more sensitization to ensure the Nigerian youth appreciate the danger of the abuse of the drug.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas stressed the correlation between drug abuse and insecurity in Nigeria. He commended the NDLEA for its efforts at battling the drug menace but called for collective efforts and employment of resources of government agencies to ensure the war against drug abuse is won. Rep. Namdas also called on adults to be better role models to the youth to battle the addiction to crystal meth.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Ifeanyi Momah proposed an amendment to the prayers of the motion by calling for a combined force by security agencies in collaboration with the NDLEA to destroy the labs that exist nationwide.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Shehu Kakale also proposed an amendment to urge better funding for NDLEA.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa proposed an amendment to expunge the part of the motion that pronounced Japan as the origin of the drug for use by Japanese pilots on suicide missions. This is so that Nigeria does not fracture its relationship with other nations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Toby Okechukwu proposed an amendment calling on the Ministry of Health to provide a clear policy on over-the-counter drugs that can be manipulated to become addictive drugs, and that the House Committee on Health should ensure compliance.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The motion was voted on and adopted as amended.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">2. Rep. Ibrahim Isiaka moved a motion on the need to investigate the process of the issuance of operational licenses to employment agencies and labour recruiters as it relates to human trafficking and manipulation and it was seconded by Rep. Vincent Ofumelu.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"o9v6fnle cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x c1et5uql ii04i59q\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Rep. Isiaka in leading the debate stated that some of the labour recruiting agencies manipulate unsuspecting youth with the guise of providing better jobs, especially in the Middle East. He expressed concern with the high number of millions of people trapped in forced labour through such tricks. Rep. Isiaka stated that Nigeria ranks highest in Sub-saharan Africa with a composition of people who are victims of child trafficking, forced labour and sexual exploitation.
